Praying in Spiritual Authority

The Authority of a Believer

Most believers pray. But very few understand the authority Jesus gave them when they pray.

My favorite question to ask Todd when he was complaining about something going on in the world or work, used to be “but do you pray.” Now, I know he is praying daily, and instead I ask “but do you pray with authority”.

Most People Pray Passively

Sometimes we come to God with a grocery list of things.  Sometimes we come to God very passive “if you want to” sort of prayers.  However, there is a difference between hoping God might move and praying with the authority He already gave you. You cannot move mountains if you very softly say something like “Mountain, please move out of my way”.  That is not what Jesus taught. He wants us to COMMAND that mountain to move in HIS name.  That is where our authority comes from.  Don’t get on a high horse and think you can do it on your own because you can’t.

Many believers pray like they are begging heaven to help. But Jesus never told us to pray from a place of weakness. He taught us to pray from authority.

Authority Comes From Christ

Luke 10:19I have given you authority… over all the power of the enemy.”

Authority is not arrogance. There have been times I thought pride wasn’t something I struggled with. I wasn’t arrogant. I didn’t flaunt anything. But God showed me something I didn’t expect — that can still be pride. Sometimes people hide pride behind false humility. You know the type: “Oh no, don’t compliment me… I just give all the glory to God.” The struggle is real. Authority is simply agreement with heaven. When you pray in agreement with God’s Word and what heaven says… that’s authority.

When you understand who you are in Christ, your prayers change.

You stop praying like a victim. You start praying like someone who knows God has already given you access, power, and authority through Jesus. The scriptures says to come before the throne BOLDLY.  I don’t think walking in on your tip toes, whispering “God, um, excuse me but if you could just… I would be grateful.” He doesn’t want timid.  He wants you to understand that His power is what is behind you.  Bow out that chest, lift your head high and go in to Him with confidence.  It reminds of my kiddos when they were little… they would come to Todd or I, with great expectancy asking for something.  It could have been a candy bar or an iPhone… They were bold in their asking.  It might be a know but you never know until you ask.  They never hesitated.  Why aren’t we like that with God?

Ezer: Women Who Pray with Authority

When I was about 12 years old, we had just moved to Houston. My grandmother was visiting us, and one afternoon my mom called from the mall because she thought the car had been stolen. You could hear the stress in her voice. My grandmother looked at me and said, “Let’s pray.”

So, we took hands right there in the kitchen, because we had one of those phones that hung on the wall that you younger generations would know nothing about. I started praying. I didn’t whisper some timid prayer. I prayed with authority and passion, asking God to intervene. When we finished, my grandmother looked at me and said something I have never forgotten. She said, “You have an anointing to pray with authority, even at such a young age.”

That moment stuck with me. I have always had conversations with God throughout the day. Prayer was never meant to be a quiet ritual you check off your list. It is a relationship, a conversation, and sometimes it is spiritual warfare. Sometimes I would ask God “why can’t I have a best friend” and the answer was always, “I thought we were besties”.  And He is.  And so is Todd.

That’s the difference between simply praying and praying with spiritual authority.

The word Ezer Kenegdo means a powerful warrior ally, strong help.  Ezer is the same word used to describe God as our helper.

That means an Ezer woman is not passive. She is a spiritual force when she prays.

An Ezer woman stands in the gap for her family, her children, her marriage, and her purpose. This includes the hurting and the lost.

She does not just say: “God please help.” She declares truth. She speaks life. She calls things into alignment with the Word of God.

When an Ezer woman understands her authority in Christ, the enemy loses ground. Her prayers shift atmospheres.

Vanguard: Watchmen Who Stand Guard

Scripture calls men to stand as watchmen on the wall.

Isaiah 62:6I have posted watchmen on your walls… they will never be silent day or night.”

A watchman does not sleep when danger approaches. When I sleep, I sleep hard and sometimes Michelle has to wake me up with noises.  One night I felt the pressure drop and knew a tornado was coming, hopped out of bed and ensured my family was in a safe place.  She didn’t have to wake up for that one.  That is what Watchmen do.

He stands alert. He watches. He prays.

When a man steps into spiritual authority, he becomes a covering for his home.

His prayers guard his marriage. Men it’s easier than you think to pray for your wife.  If you don’t know what to pray for – ask her.  Whatever she says (you actually have to listen to her…) pray those words exactly. Easy peasy. His prayers guard his children. His prayers guard the calling God placed on his life. Too many men believe the calling on their life is their job/profession.  If you believe your profession is your calling, you are mistaken.  While it may be fulfilling for you, God calls you to something greater.

A watchman understands that prayer is not passive.

It is spiritual warfare.

Homefront: Authority Inside the Family

The home is one of the greatest battlegrounds the enemy targets.

Why? Because strong families build strong faith.

When a husband and wife pray together in spiritual authority, something powerful happens. Let me tell you something, when the kids were little we prayed all the time as a family.  Read the Bible too.  Once they grew up, I (Todd) let it fall to the ground and while we prayed together, I didn’t initiate it and it wasn’t often. However, once we started praying together almost every night before bed… I’m not talking one of those mamby pamby prayers of “thank you for today help us sleep” prayers.  We worship together ruach music and worship.  We pray for our church, our pastor, our families, our customers/consultants/business partners and the ministry.  Our goal is to reach as many people for Christ as possible. To reach the hurting and the lost.  Unless I lead and make it clear that we are reading the Bible and praying together over this, the enemy has a foothold and I would not be fulfilling the purpose God has for me.  I waited a long time to walk out what He gave me but I’m ready and nothing will stop me now.

The home becomes protected ground. The enemy cannot easily divide what is being covered in prayer. This is not about perfect people.

It is about people who choose to stand together and invite God into their home daily. Pray together. Read Scripture together. Declare truth over your home. Spiritual authority begins where you live. Teach your children to do it.  And if they goof off and pray during prayer time and Bible study… let them from time to time.  God loves laughter.  When we had devotions and prayer time Michelle would get upset that we were not honoring God by sitting quietly and her frustration would show.  She didn’t hide it well if you know what I mean.  The face talks.  One night God revealed to her He also loves the laughter and wants to be a part of the family during those times.  Yes we are to be in awe of God but He also wants a real relationship… model that for your kiddos.

Authority Comes from Alignment

Spiritual authority does not come from volume. It comes from alignment with God.

James 4:7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Submission to God releases authority against the enemy.

When believers understand this, prayer stops feeling powerless.

Instead, prayer becomes one of the most powerful weapons God has given us.

The Call Right Now

This is the hour for believers to rise in spiritual authority.

Ezer women praying with power.Watchmen standing guard.Families reclaiming their homes through prayer.

The world is loud. But heaven is looking for people who know how to pray. Not timid prayers. Authority-filled prayers that agree with the Word of God.

Because when believers understand their authority in Christ… things begin to shift.

Reflection

Where in your life do you need to begin praying with authority instead of fear?

Your marriage?Your family?Your calling?Your future?

God did not call you to live powerless. He called you to stand.

If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs to be reminded of the authority they have in Christ.
